This role is responsible for leading business development efforts within a defined region, focusing on identifying new revenue opportunities, cultivating client relationships, and building a strong sales pipeline in collaboration with assigned Project Managers. Success in this position will be measured by the ability to convert pipeline prospects into long-term, revenue-generating clients through a strategic and consultative approach. The role also includes mentoring and supporting the professional development and efficiency of Project Managers and Project Engineers under your guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management Support
Maintain oversight of ongoing project management responsibilities with existing customers.
Lead the full lifecycle of assigned projects, including pursuit, sales, engineering, and execution.
Provide budget estimates and guidance to potential clients not yet engaged with a Project Management team.
Sales Strategy & Management
Develop and execute competitive bid strategies and manage risk throughout the bid review process.
Optimize project team structure by aligning client and project needs with the right Project Managers and Engineers.
Oversee end-to-end project management: sales initiation, client meetings, contract development, scheduling, pre-construction planning, and final delivery.
Maintain accurate records of prospect activity, target accounts, and newly acquired clients.
Market Development & Revenue Growth
Drive regional revenue and profit growth by increasing project volume and expanding customer base in both current and emerging markets.
Define and implement business development strategies that align with broader strategic goals.
Analyze market trends, identify new business opportunities, and strengthen the company’s market position through proactive engagement.
Monitor competitor activity to stay ahead of industry trends and client needs.
Client Relationship Management
Identify and cultivate new client opportunities, while deepening relationships with existing clients.
Build consultative partnerships that align with clients’ operational and strategic priorities.
Conduct facility/shop tours and client briefings to reinforce service capabilities and brand value.
Foster collaboration with internal department leaders, peers, and project teams to uphold a positive and productive work culture.
Build strong partnerships with customers, subcontractors, and industry stakeholders.
Team Mentoring & Development
Actively support the growth and mentorship of Project Managers and Engineers.
Play a key role in recruiting, onboarding, and developing new team members.
Evaluate performance and promote skill development aligned with internal project management standards and expectations.
Collaborate with leadership and HR to maintain a positive, high-performance work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sales Management, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
10+ years of experience in estimating, designing, and managing HVAC projects ranging from $5 million to $25+ million.
10+ years of experience successfully leading and developing teams.
Strong independent decision-making ability with sound judgment on when to escalate issues.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and commitment to professional standards and ethics.
Ability to confidently engage high-level stakeholders and decision-makers.
Proven ability to influence outcomes and achieve objectives in a consultative sales environment.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Experience preferred in ERP and business systems such as JDE, IFS, BidTracer, FastEst, Bluebeam, Box, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.
